UniSports Sports Medicine

UniSports Sports Medicine was established in 1993, bringing together sports medicine, orthopaedics and physiotherapy, and has since expanded its clinical base to include sports podiatry, massage, hand therapy and sports nutrition.

UniSports Sports Medicine applies a multi-disciplinary approach to the management of sports related issues ensuring injured athletes have access to immediate and thorough medical treatment of the highest quality, providing the optimal setting for a speedy and complete recovery.

Although primarily a commercial operation, UniSports Sports Medicine has strong links with The University of Auckland. They provide both academic and clinical input to the Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Medicine run by the Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care.

There is also a close association with Health and Performance, a division of the University of Auckland Clinics, allowing their clients the best possible treatment right through to the final stages of rehabilitation.

Another important aspect of UniSports Sports Medicine’s activities is the clinical teaching and research they undertake. They provide elective medical student teaching and clinical placements, orthopaedic post fellowship and fellowship training, and registrar placements for the Australasian College of Sports Physicians. Additionally, undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Auckland University of Technology Physiotherapy School complete clinical placements at the facility.

In 2008, UniSports Sport Medicine was endorsed by FIFA as a Centre of Excellence for the provision of sports medicine services, the only centre in Australasia to receive this honour.
